The seminar “Artificial Intelligence for Accountants,” organized by the Association of Accountants ACCOUNTER of Colombia, became a key reference point for understanding the digital transformation redefining the accounting profession. Dr. Francisco Moreno, a master in Business Analytics, participated in the seminar on September 6. The seminar focused on how artificial intelligence (AI) can be a fundamental ally in the accounting field, improving efficiency and reducing errors.
The seminar clarified that we are facing a revolution in the profession. It is not just a matter of adopting new technologies but of changing mindsets toward a more agile and efficient approach to accounting. AI represents an opportunity for accountants to evolve from mere reporters to strategic advisors in their organizations.
The demand for AI training is due to its growing importance in various sectors, including accounting. There are currently more than 320,000 accountants in Colombia, and it is estimated that 20,000 new ones graduate annually. In this context, digital transformation tools and data analytics have become crucial to maintaining competitiveness.
Dr. Moreno opened the seminar by highlighting the importance of adapting to technological changes. “AI is not just a tool, but a new way of working,” he said. This message set the tone for the talk, which sought to prepare accountants for a future where automation and artificial intelligence will play predominant roles.
Practical Applications of AI
During the seminar, Dr. Moreno presented multiple applications of AI in accountants’ daily work. Generative AI, a trend that has gained momentum, allows automating repetitive tasks such as bank reconciliations, financial analysis, and audits. This not only saves time but also minimizes errors that could have severe financial consequences.
“Thanks to artificial intelligence, we can perform tasks in minutes that used to take hours,” noted Dr. Moreno. This paradigm shift is vital in an industry where precision is essential.
The seminar also focused on specific tools that accountants can integrate into their work, such as chatbots and AI platforms that simplify complex processes. Dr. Moreno emphasized the importance of “prompt engineering,” a skill needed to interact effectively with AI tools. By learning how to formulate appropriate questions, accountants can fully take advantage of AI’s benefits.
Training Opportunities
One of the seminar’s highlights was the invitation to participate in ACOUNTER’s first International Taxation conference, scheduled for December. This event will offer training from prestigious speakers and provide a unique experience to reflect on the profession’s future.
