Chile and Brazil: Opportunities in the Energy Transition

The energy transition has become one of the main drivers of global economic development. In Latin America, Chile and Brazil stand out as two of the countries making the most progress in this process.

According to the World Economic Forum, both countries rank among the best positioned globally in terms of energy transition, driven by a growing share of renewable energy, supportive regulatory frameworks, and consistent long-term policies.

This regional leadership takes place in a context where the energy transition is advancing unevenly across Latin America, with significant challenges in investment, infrastructure, and cross-border integration.

Complementary capabilities in renewable energy

One of the key factors behind the positioning of Chile and Brazil is the complementarity of their energy matrices.

Brazil has developed one of the cleanest energy matrices globally, with around 49% of its energy consumption coming from renewable sources, supported by its long-standing hydropower capacity and the growth of wind energy and biofuels.

Chile, on the other hand, has experienced significant growth in solar and wind energy, which now represent a substantial share of its electricity generation, with strong expansion in recent years.

This combination positions both countries as key players in the regional energy transition and opens opportunities for joint projects and knowledge transfer.

Energy integration as a regional opportunity

Beyond individual progress, one of the main challenges for Latin America remains the lack of energy integration.

According to ECLAC, greater electrical interconnection between countries would enable a more efficient energy transition, generating both economic and environmental benefits, particularly in scenarios with high renewable energy penetration.

In this context, cooperation between Chile and Brazil could play an important role in advancing regional energy integration, facilitating energy exchange, optimizing resources, and strengthening energy security.

New investment and development opportunities

The progress of the energy transition in both countries has also attracted increasing interest from international investors and companies linked to infrastructure, energy, and technology sectors.

The development of projects related to renewable energy, storage, green hydrogen, and electromobility opens opportunities across different stages of the value chain, from generation to specialized services.

However, one of the main challenges remains the need to increase investment and strengthen transmission networks, which are key to sustaining the sector’s growth in the region.

A relationship with strategic projection

In a global context marked by decarbonization and the transformation of energy systems, the relationship between Chile and Brazil takes on a strategic dimension.

Strengthening cooperation between both countries can not only drive new investment opportunities but also help position Latin America as a relevant player in the global energy transition.

For companies operating in the region, this represents an opportunity to engage in a growing sector with strong potential and an increasingly central role in the future economy.
