Uruguay shows signs of recovery in economic activity

Uruguay’s economic activity improved in June, providing new signals regarding the performance of the economy following a period of weaker momentum.
According to the Monthly Economic Activity Indicator (IMAE), prepared by the Central Bank of Uruguay, the indicator tracks the monthly performance of the country’s different economic sectors and helps anticipate short-term trends.

The latest data show a recovery compared with previous performance, although the outlook remains marked by mixed signals across sectors and more moderate economic activity during the second quarter.

At the same time, consumption continues to grow, albeit at a slower pace than at the beginning of 2026. In June, activity measured through card payments increased by 6% year-on-year, with particularly strong performance in supermarkets, travel, and digital wallets.
For companies operating or assessing opportunities in Uruguay, monitoring these indicators can help anticipate changes in consumption, demand, and the economic environment in which they operate.
